KJMG Communications: Support

To personalize these instructions, please tell us your account and domain name:
account: domain:

Overview

Your domain name, domainname.com, is located on a server known as stryker and is located in a datacenter in Houston. We purchase server space from a company called HostGator. This server runs on Linux, which is similar to Unix.

For each domain, the following functions are enabled: web (http), ftp, and email.

Moving Your Domain Name to KJMG

First, you need to register your domain name with a registrar. We recommend using Dotster (dotster.com) because they are relatively cheap and easy to use.

When you register, you need to specify two domain name servers. These map the IP address of your web/ftp/mail server to your domain name. The names of our domain name servers are:
     ns1.kjmg.net
     ns2.kjmg.net

After we have activated your account but before your domain name has transfered, you can access your account at http://kjmg.net/~account.

Support For Your Site; HostforWeb

Your first line of support is your contact at KJMG. You should already have their email address and phone number.

If your support contact is unavailable or cannot address your support request, then your issue can be submitted to our upstream internet provider, HostGator.

HostGator's support options are listed here. If you can't find an answer to your issue in their knowledgebase, then you should open a trouble ticket.

Administering Your Account

Individual accounts are managed with cPanel, a collection of site management tools, over an encrypted connection. The url for cPanel is: https://domainname.com:2083

Your username is your account name. Please contact your KJMG contact person for your password.

Web Site

By default, Frontpage is not enabled on your site. You can enable it via your cPanel.

Email

Email configuration tools are located here. These include both the ability to set up new email accounts and scripts that will autoconfigure your email client. We strongly recommend using SSL for email login (both inbox and SMTP).

You will

Ftp, Shell, Other Tools

Shell access

If enabled, you can access your server via the command line using SSH, an encrypted protocol. We recommend using either SSH, the program within MacOSX, or Putty if you are using Windows.

FTP

If you wish to use an FTP client to connect to the server (or any other tool--like, a text editor, or Windows Network Places--which saves to directly to the server via FTP protocol), an additional step should first be taken to encrypt that connection: in your FTP client, select SFTP as the protocol and port "2222"

Domain Name Parking

You can 'park' or create additional accounts for other domain names that you host. For example, if you owned domainname.com, you might also purchase domainname.net or domainname.org, and park those on top of domainname.com. You do this via cPanel.

Backing Up

We have protection consistent with any top-tier datacenter. Nevertheless, we recommend downloading a complete backup of your site from time to time, via cPanel.
